It’s time to put up or shut up, Americans. The average qualified voter turnout for Presidential elections in the United States is 52%.

Officials from the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq have released current numbers of 62% and still counting in all territories combined. Barack Obama’s official statement on the unexpectedly high turnout, “Today’s voting makes it clear that the future of Iraq belongs to the people of Iraq.”

No wonder we are slowly becoming a laughing stock in the rest of the civilized world. In 2007, 647 million votes were cast on American Idol while only 123  million were cast in 2004 for the President of the country.

Almost 50% of you have not made it to the polls in more than 45 years.

If you want the right to rant about what needs to be changed in the country, set down that remote control and make it to the voting centers. There’s one in a neighborhood near you.

Fifteen minutes. Every four years. How’s that for perspective?
